The National Forest Park of Sounio is located at he northern park of Attiki Country, 50kms away from Athens. It was founded in 1971 and was declared by Presidential Decree in 1974. The Park is characterized by a variety of Beautiful scenery and areas of archaeological findings that can compose an “outdoor Museum of Ancient Technology”.
Mostly it is covered in coniferous forest and macchia vegetation. The area of the Park is an important habitat for small animal species (foxes, rabbits, etc). Different types of ores and minerals are encountered and were a strong motivation for exploitation since 3.000 BC till our days. The rare geological phenomenon of submersion at the area of “Chaos” and the “Cave of Kitsos” are signs of Prehestoric Ages (40.000 BC) Walking through the forest roads is the simplest and most interesting way of coming in contact with natural environment.
This is a small walk in a part of the National Park of Sounio.
