The history of Stoa Arsakeiou In 1900 it was decided to build a building along the entire length of the plot on Stadiou Street, with ground floor shops and two floors for the Company’s external schools. The works were extended to the side of Arsaki and Panepistimiou streets and included the gallery that was located in the extension of the then Pinakoton street (today Char. Trikoupi), ie the well-known gallery of Arsakeio.
The impressive architecture of the arcade with the glass roof, the interior octagonal square and the dome on the roof is the work of the German architect Ernst Ziller and was designed in 1907. It connects Panepistimiou, Arsaki, Stadiou and Pesmatzoglou streets. Part of it was renamed in 1996 as the Arcade of the Book since it hosts more than 20 bookstores. At its basement the legendary Art Theatre is housed.
